Single floor living in a multilevel home is one of the most popular “aging-in-place” floor plan designs now being created at YBH. As previously discussed in a post titled Next-Gen housing at Yankee Barn, we find our clients are building multilevel homes that suit the needs of family at all stages in life. Today’s clients are looking for a home that suits them now and down the road. This is an evolution from...
Yankee Barn Homes talks with Senior Designer in Architectural Engineering, Jon Sevigny. With over 14 years experience, Jon’s job is to meet with a client to discern their wish list, design a plan for their site/budget, and make the home architecturally pleasing.
YBH: Tell us a bit about yourself.
Jon: I’m a happily married husband and father to two great kids. I have a passion for architecture and I am very fortunate to have a job that I love. My father and grandfather were both builders. I took a slightly different path into the architectural design field. I’ve been working at YBH for over 14 years. I have designed hundreds of custom post and beam homes.
YBH: 14 years, all at Yankee Barn. What keeps you here?
Jon: Everyone at the company is genuinely happy to be working at YBH. Yankee Barn Homes is a small company with a family-oriented atmosphere; I like that in the workplace. The company stays current with cutting edge technology and the latest in building materials. We have the most up-to-date 3D modeling software.
YBH: Explain your job process.
Jon: My job is to make dreams a reality. In order to do this, I use a 3D CAD program called ArchiCAD. This software allows me to fully design a house in 3D, including the post & beam frame, interior furniture, fixtures, etc. Once the house is designed, I take the client on a “Virtual Tour” of their new home. I can also take the design one step further with a program called Artlantis. This program allows me to do photo-realistic renderings with landscaping. I can import an actual photo of the site and use it as the background for the rendering.
YBH: What’s next at YBH?
Jon: Summer is always a busy time of the year. We recently finished erecting a beautiful barn style home on the ocean. Soon, we will start building a large addition to a 2002 Yankee Barn. The new addition includes a new Master Suite that has its own octagon tower.
I look forward to the future of YBH. The company is continuously evolving in order to remain up to date with design software and building methods. Each time I start a design, it’s like the beginning of a new and exciting journey. I can’t wait to meet the next YBH client and start designing their dream home!
