The Cabot barn house has been completed. When we last updated this barn home it was early summer and building was progressing nicely. Since then a whole lot of gorgeous has been happening with this open concept barn. All you need do is glance through the photos to see this is no ordinarily barn style home. Yankee Barn doesn't do ordinary and neither do our clients. For starters, this house happens to be...
Yankee Barn Homes’ smaller barn house, The Grantham Lakehouse, has won a very big award: NH Home 2015 Excellence in Design /Architectural Design Award. The NH Home’s Excellence in Design Awards is a program that honors and celebrates excellence in home design and the creative use of materials in new, remodeled and historic residences. Yankee Barn Homes is a build-company accomplished in all three categories, so our decision was not “should we enter?” but “which category should we enter?”. The Grantham Lakehouse had just been completed and was such a fine example of 21st Century barn home architecture, our decision was a simple one. We couldn’t be happier that the judges agreed. The Grantham Lakehouse is an architectural beauty!
This smaller barn house is a custom design which takes Yankee Barn Homes back to our 40-year-old roots. Barns and barn imagery are strong architectural influences, particularly in New England. The simplicity of a barn is not only appealing to the eye, but economic to build. The Grantham Lakehouse is a flexible design which may accommodate a middle-aged couple with one-floor living (potential master bed/bath on the first floor), or a growing family as it also has a second floor master plus two children’s rooms (See floor plans here). The spaces were created with the ability to become whatever type of dwelling the homeowner needs, all within the efficient envelope of a classic New England barn style home.
The interior of The Grantham Lakehouse is quintessential Yankee Barn, from the exposed timber structure to a second floor family room open to the ceiling (includes a light emitting cupola). Full of natural materials, the house contains wide plank wood floors, a large kitchen with a center island, traditional interior detailing and the potential for up to 5 ½ baths and 5 bedrooms. All of these features are enveloped in this smaller barn house. Really! The floor plan as is comes in at 2400 square feet above ground and a 1200 square foot basement, but may be adjusted in numerous ways to suit individual needs. The detached two-car garage is also part of this plan (again, client’s choice).
